Handmade All Natural Horse Treats
Lisa M. Otto, equine enthusiast and owner of Creekside Farm in Campobello, South Carolina, started out simply wanting to make some wholesome horse treats for her own stable of horses. Now NickerDoodles horse treats have grown into being a sought after favorite by horses and the local community.
The NickerDoodles treats were originally created for Otto's own horses so they would have a delectable and easily digestible treat. Made of oats, wheat bran, barley, corn and molasses, the treats are baked fresh every week in her own kitchen.
“In pursuit of an all natural, safe and affordable treat, I experimented with assorted grains and developed my own variety of horse treats,” said Lisa. “Soon friends tried the home-baked treats with their horses. Getting positive feedback, they all wanted more so I started packaging and selling them.”
According to Otto, a portion of the proceeds are being directed to equine activities affiliated with Harmon Field located in Tryon, NC, as these show grounds are near to her heart. “I did my very first shows at the schooling events held at the Harmon Field facilities. That is such a great opportunity to get started with the early showing experience in the Show Hunter environment.” Harmon Field equine activities include local schooling horse shows and Otto is personally please to be able to make some contributions to the facility to help them meet its budget demands for maintaining a great venue for the local horse community. She anticipates being able to double her donation amounts this year if sales continue in the current trend.
NickerDoodles are packaged in three convenient sizes and each in reclosable plastic pails, and are currently available at select tack shops and feed stores.
